Our Most Frequently Asked Questions...
Q: Where do you source your topsoil?
A: We get our soil locally from sites in and around North Wales. As we set such high quality standards we always send one of our soil boffins to inspect the soil at source before having it tested to ensure it meets the relevant British Standard (BSEN3883) and then shipping it to our production site for screening and blending.
Q: How much do I need…?
A: A tonne or 1000kgs of topsoil will cover an area of approximately 15m² to a depth of 50mm. The same weight of gravel will do an area of around 20m² at a depth of 25mm (you don’t want to lay that too thick) and a bulk bag, or 1000ltr of bark or mulch will do around 20m² at a depth of 50mm.
If you’re still not sure then give us a bell or an email and we’ll hit the calculators!
Q: Can I get a certificate for my topsoil…?
A: We can supply specific certificates for the actual soil which you order, however this will take up to 14 days and is a chargeable service. We can provide you with a sample certificate which shows what our soil is tested to in general; this will not be specific to the soil you buy though as we only spot test our soil (we still only source from Greenfield, virgin sites though; so there’re no nasty chemicals or similar lurking in there!).
Q: When will I get my delivery…?
A: We offer three working day delivery as standard (you can choose which day) or you can select a next day or Saturday delivery for an additional charge. All deliveries will be made between the hours of 9am and 6pm unless you specify a morning or afternoon delivery at checkout.
We can’t account for traffic or drivers hours or cows blocking the roads etc so please remember this when requesting a rough time of delivery; over 98% of our deliveries are made on the day requested and we always try to give you an approximate time when asked.
Q: How are my goods unloaded?
A: Goods will be dragged onto a lift attached to the back of the delivery vehicle and lowered to the ground. The driver will then pull the trolley off the lift to the edge of the road, bottom of your driveway or onto the pavement.
The trolley won’t move on uneven surfaces such as grass, gravel or earth and there is no lifting gear so the products can’t be put over a wall or similar. The driver will manually move the trolley; it’s a bit like pushing a baby elephant on a skateboard so if you live on a hill or slope or have a gravel driveway etc then please call us before ordering so we can check out your point of delivery for you first!
Q: What size vehicle do you deliver with?
A: Our hauliers prefer to use standard 18 tonner delivery vehicles which are around the same size as a normal Council bin lorry. If you’ve got restricted access to your property or low bridges, overhanging trees etc then call us first and ask for a smaller, 7.5 tonne delivery vehicle!
Q: Where do you deliver to…?
A: We deliver to England, Scotland and Wales but currently mainland only. In the near future we hope to begin trading in Northern Ireland so do watch this space!
Q: Where are you based…?
A: We hang out in North Wales. We love visitors so pop along and see us if you’re ever in the area… Dandy’s Landscape Supplies Centre, Fourth Ave, Zone 2, Deeside Industrial Park, Deeside, CH5 2NR.
Q: What if I’ve seen it cheaper…?
A: Please tell us! We like to always be the cheapest online so if you have seen one of our products somewhere else at a lower price then pop an email across to us with some details and we’ll check it out. Hopefully we’ll be able to match or beat the price for you!
Q: Do you deliver at the weekend…?
A: You can opt for a Saturday delivery at checkout but it does come with an additional cost of £45.95. We think everyone should get a day off to enjoy their gardens, our own staff included, so we shut up shop on a Sunday!
Q: What are your opening hours?
A: The internet never sleeps so you can order online from Dandy’s Garden Centre 24/7. If you would prefer to order with a real life person then you can call or visit us Monday to Friday between 7am and 5.30pm or on a Saturday or Bank Hol between 10am and 2pm!
